It’s funny that even up until the moment I got to the airport I didn’t feel like it was holiday time. All my focus had been on getting through the wedding that I kind of forgot I was going on honeymoon. However that didn’t last long as the moment we arrived I knew for sure I was in paradise. We chose to stay at the Royal Riviera Cancun. I have honestly never seen or stayed in a resort this big. It has 12 pools, 24hr room service, live shows every night and 6 restaurants to choose from. Since it was a special occasion and it was going to be a holiday of a life time, we booked to stay in a junior suite with our own swim up pool. It was great to have the opportunity to go back to the room and your own pool when the main areas got busy. I’d definitely recommend splashing the extra cash to experience the ‘suite Life’.
Unfortunately, the first two days were a wash out. We were experiencing the back end of the hurricane that was hitting Carolina which caused heavy tropical thunder storms. I know it doesn’t sound like much fun but we made the most of jumping in and out our private pool in the rain. It wasn’t long until the rain cleared and we were roasted with 32 degree heat.
Our first week was all about relaxing and recharging our batteries after the stress of the wedding. We had morning strolls along the beach before breakfast then spent our days reading and drinking Cocktails by the pool. Breakfast was something else though. I’ve never seen a buffet so big with so many options. Fresh fruits, continentals, Mexican tacos, dozens of different breads, meats, cheeses, pastries and they even had stations where they would make your own omelette or fruit smoothie right there infront of you. Honestly, the list could go on and on.
By the time it got to Thursday we are feeling good and thought it was about time to treat ourselves. We opted for a spa morning followed by a beach massage (I will go into detail about this in a separate post. It’s too good not too!!) It was expensive but your only on honeymoon once, right?
The rest of the week into the weekend passed by in a flash. More sunbathing, swimming, eating and drinking continued. Week 2 was planned to be slightly more active.
Anyway, I’ll stop blabbing and let you get to the good bit … Pictures!!
