Afternoon Tea at 29

Afternoon tea is one of my all time favourite things to do, so when my friend Gill offered to treat me I couldn’t say no! I’ve been to quite a few places now and it never seems to get boring. This time around it was at 29 in Glasgow. If you haven’t heard of it (very unlikely), its hidden at the side of Royal Exchange Square just off Buchanan Street. I have never been in before so I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I certainly didn’t expect it to be so big and have several different floors. Unfortunately, the usual place where afternoon tea is normally served wasn’t available that day due to a paint & bubbles class (I know, sounds fun right!). So, when we arrived they had placed us in the bar area before moving into the main area of The Grill Room restaurant.

Food 5/5
It was the usual set up, a glass of procesecco each, pot of tea and a three tear treat stand. On the lower plate you had the traditional scone with cream & Jam. The middle was small sandwiches with fillings such as chicken, cheese & onion, egg & watercress and a simple ham. I must say though I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, considering it was only an afternoon tea. It was very tasty and beautifully presented.

Drinks 5/5
I’m not normally a procesco type of gal but whatever they served was a different level. It wasn’t bitter, dry or even too sweet. I often find that when I drink procesco I start to feel sick quickly, but with this I didn’t. Obviously, it wasn’t your usual £5 bottle from Aldi and it wasn’t your top of the range champagne but it certainly did the trick!

Decor 4/5
It has a lot of dark interior’s throughout but the bright pink feature wall in the entrance area is AMAZING. On our way out we had a sneak peak into the usual function area for afternoon tea and we were blown away. They had soft cream round booths with large contemporary LED type chandeliers hanging above. It was finished with all over mood lighting. I couldn’t help by feel jealous we missed out!

I can’t comment on the value for money because I was lucky enough to be treated, however I can honestly say that I was not disappointed with the quality of the food and drinks! Highly recommended.
